Questions about the finales - Imagine Cup 2010 - Ask them here!

First of all we (Teamwerkz), congratulate to all of the contestants on participating in this great event!

It's going to be a pleasure meeting you in Poland! :)

Ok, this thread will be for all the questions you have to ask, concerning the finales.

We thank in advance our Digital Media Captain, Mr. Paolo Tosolini on his time, effort and every information he provides us with!

For straters we have a couple of questions :)

    1. Are we allowed to promote our sponosrs on the  Imagine Cup - Digital Media Competition, and in which way are we allowed to do so? We are asking this question in advance as we dont want to break any rules :)

     2. Are we allowed to use other video editing software (aside from the Microsoft's video editing tools) and what kind of software will be installed on the workstations? Do we get any technical support
in the usage of the installed software?

    3. Are we allowed to use our editing software (for example our music editing
    software)?

4.Which camera model do we get to use in the Competition? Do we get any
technical support in the usage of the camera?

Once more, thanks again for your time and effort!

    Nikola and Goran,

All great questions. Thanks for posting them on this board. To answer them in order:

    1) Yes, you are allowed to promote your sponsors in any way you seem to fit in the competition, so long as it complies with all other rules regarding your participation.

    2) The rules will state that "You are encouraged to use Movie Maker and it will be installed with the workstation computer that will be provided.  However, you are free to bring and use your own legally licensed software".  In other words, you are free to use whatever software you want, but we'll provide a common baseline for everybody (that is the free Microsoft's Movie Maker). 3) Yes, you can use your favorite music editing software too (we don't plan to provide one). However should you be using music or third-party video clips, you must obtain proper clearance and permission on any copyrights.

    4) The camera that we will provide for the competition will be either a Flip UltraHD or Kodak Zi8.  In either case, documentation that comes with the camera will be provided along with accessories specific to that camera (spare battery, tripod, etc). These are very basic cameras, not very difficult to operate, just to set a common baseline for everybody. If you prefer to bring your own camera, you are free to do it too.

Thank you for the great tip and congrats! :)

Ok, so let's ask Paolo officialy. :)

Are we allowed to use trial versions of any editing software (including software for flash animation) during the finale competition?

For example: Trial version of Adobe Premier, trial version of Adobe After effects, trial version of Sony Vegas

or for flash, Macromedia Flash 8, or Swish Max etc.?

Yes, you can use any trial version of software that you feel more comfortable with. We'll provide a baseline for everybody but if you prefer to use other tools, you are free to do it.

Paolo, we have a question regarding team jerseys.
This is quoted from the official mail we received:

    "World Cup

We will be broadcasting the World Cup LIVE on July 3. Wear your team jersey and have fun representing your country. We will be taking a group photo of everyone displaying their team spirit!"

We wanted to know, do we have to wear official Imagine Cup jerseys during the competition (if they will be provided to us) or can we wear our own jerseys (that we design).

We wanted to design our own jerseys, but we are not sure if we are allowed to do so.

So, can we wear our own designed jerseys, or do we get to wear the Imagine Cup ones?

No rule or regulation defines that, so we wanted to double check it with You.

Thank You for Your time Paolo!

I do not believe that there is any plan to supply any sort of Imagine Cup jersey. There is no rule that says you cannot create and wear your own design as long as it is not inappropriate ;)

Tim, thank You for the reply. We would like it also, if Paolo could give us the official answer, so no infrigments to the rules and regulations would be made.

So, here's in short the question from the original post.

Can we wear our self-designed jerseys during the Imagine Cup Competition? :)

Thanks in advance for any info provided! :)

    Nikola and Goran,

Tim's answer is correct. Feel free to wear whatever you want as long as it's appropriate.

By the way, Tim is the overall ImagineCup contest manager, so you can consider his answers as official as mine.

Dreamspirit, I'm going to find out if the finals are going to be live streamed or not. I think some of these plans are still in fluctuation, so stay tuned for more news.
