    Your favourite submissions!

Now that the judges are finally finishing up their work with judging the round 2 submissions, it's time for us to pick our favourite submissions! However, I don't want you only to pick your overall favourite, but also give credit to the games that you though impressed you in other criterias! (Oh by the way, keep things interesting by not mentioning your own game in any way!)

Best overall game/Deserves to win: Green Gears, Dreamworld, Green World and the Yummy & Yukky game

Best video presentation: Dreamworld http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXHtdKPnlJI (Good use of voices. Also makes the watcher want to play the game)

Best art direction: Green Gears & Last Hope

"Coolest" use of theme: Green Gears & Last Hope

Best music: Exustio (Even though I'm not certain if it's made in-house or not), Green World & Green Gears

Best engine: Green Gears and the Yummy & Yukky game (It's not just because it's 3D and gorgeous looking, but it's the most technically impressive considering the first impression!)

Now which games impressed you the most? Games need to be properly credited for the hard work put into them! : ]

Zonelink seems to be a really good game too, the game is really polished with very cool graphics. Their video is also really interesting, I bet that they will be choosen for the final !

Garbalicious has also an unique and awesome style :)

    Re: Your favourite submissions!

    I have some favourites. ;)

Actually, I have more than six so I know some of my favourites won't make it through. There's also a difference in having a favourite and having a game that scores well. In my years as a games journalist I got used to divorcing my own personal taste and likes/dislikes from the actual analysis of the game itself. Add to that that every game is being judged by multiple judges and with a pool of dozens and dozens of judges worldwide, I'm expecting that there will be some interesting results, but regardless, there will be an absolutely fierce competition in Poland in just over a month's time!

Still, I think I will try to write up a blog post or record a podcast or something highlighting some of my favourites and why - after the finals. :)

Are the current judges going to be the final judge in Poland ?

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but the finals judges were decided and invited to participate in Poland completely independently of the Round 1/2 judges.

    I agree with you!

    • I love Green Gears for their engine and overall atmosphere. I am curious how their game play turns out.
    • Last hope is great too! Great graphics and atmosphere, a real target audience and a great connection with the theme. Again, curious of the game play.
    • And the last one you haven't mentioned (of course) and my personal favorite: Garbalicious for it's unique and very well-polished style. Also has a great intuitive game play aspect. I'd love to play this one time.

http://garbalicious.wordpress.com/ Garbalicous' blog & submission build download.

The game has 360-controller support, and works the best with a medium fast flip-speed imo.

Our best time in time attack are currently 38,6 seconds. Hope you enjoy the sneak peak of our little adventure!

I would definately want to try out the participants' submission builds in the near future!

Garbalicious is a 2D game ! Green World too...
I really love the atmosphere of garbalicious, the silouettes, the subtle shades of color in the backGround... Love It !
I'm impressed by how complete ZoneLink seems to be.
Good Luck for the finals in Poland (I Hope to see you there of course ^^) !

Haha. yeah, I watched Garbalicious after I posted my previous post.
And I do forgot Greenworld. Because I always misread them as Green Gears.

For me, Last Hope is my favorite.
And ZoneLink wows me. At first glance, I thought it was Red Alert with colors like rainbows and with peaceful theme.

    Re: Your favourite submissions!

     Hi,

I am afraid that we are trying to select the winners using videos that was shown already.

as every year I want to tell you that some games are not presented yet.

this year I was an mentor of two teams from Poland and one of them doesn't present video yet.

Game is called Yummy and Yukky uses XNA and nVidia stereoscopic 3D, guys still are working removing bugs (lot bugs :) ). Game moves the player to be an animal (like an ant) for a while. The goal is to present the environemntal problems from an small animal (not human) perspective. Of course stereoscopic 3d gives you ultimate possibilities but cant be presented using normal video.

probably guys will forgive me if I will present here one of the screenshots:

    http://main2.amu.edu.pl/~tgdala/screen_YandY.jpg

So I know that there is a set of great games not presented here. Last year Belgium that took two places in final in Cairo, but they present only screen shots here.

So please to all of the authors, put at least some screenshots here. We would like to puzzle top six too teams (we have to fill next five days somehow).

    Best Regards

    Tomek

    Looking great, tgdala!

I'd love for Microsoft to host an Imagine Cup Game Design archive with descriptions and screenshot of the submitted games. (At least for round 2). But not sure whether this is possible with licenses and terms of use of the Imagine Cup.

@chibini: Played garbalicious yesterday, had fun. Couldn't figure out how to play it in 38,6 seconds. Found the secret caves though! ;).

    P.S. Our game is playable @ http://floatingkoalagames.com/download/

    Re: Your favourite submissions!

I am hoping to write a series of blog posts that describe every single game from round 2 including my own thoughts and one of the submitted screenshots for each. It will be time consuming but totally worth it because there are so many awesome games that won't make it to Poland. I've started it but I won't post it until I've written something on all submissions and it will likely only be possible for me to publish it after the world finals.

I love all of your games and show them off to everyone I come into contact with. I did a guest lecture at a university last week on game development and game technology trends and used the videos of Green Gears, Garbalicious, By Implication and others to highlight what students are capable of.

    You all rock.

@ tgdala: Sounds like an interesting concept! yet I don't quite understand why it can't be recorded onto video. You don't actually need all of the effects to give people an understanding of the game?

@ michiel: Did you to use the sprint function?
